As we seek to make daily tasks less time consuming, life hacks have become very useful, providing various tips and tricks people can use to improve efficiency.
With the help of technology, activities such as the washing of plates and clothes have become easier with the dishwasher and washing machine.
But, such advanced technologies are not the only things that can make our daily to-do list easier to manage.
In recent times, people on social media have been sharing life hacks they either discovered by accident or through countless attempts at making a task easier.
Here are 10 life hacks you can use to make daily tasks easier.
1. Pasta lighter

Candles are often used to make a house smell good or feel cozy, perfuming the air with hints of lavender, apple or even vanilla.
But, when we burn our favourite candle too low, to reach the wick in relighting it can become a difficult task, resulting in burns to the fingers.
Well, if you have spaghetti pasta in your pantry or cupboard, then you are in luck.
Instead of burning your fingers, you can light the end of an uncooked spaghetti stick to reach the wicks of candles that are close to being finished but aren’t there just yet.
2. Remove highlighter stains

When we want to remember an important point in a book we are reading, we often highlight the quote, sentence or paragraph.
But what if the wrong sentence gets highlighted? Or you went a bit overboard with highlighting and now the entire page is glowing and you wish you could erase it?
Well, highlighters are not as permanent as you may think.
If you wish to unhighlight a word or paragraph in a book, cut a lemon in two and place the juice on a cotton swab. Then lightly rub the swab over the highlighted text and watch as it slowly fades.
3. DIY Drip waterer

Gardening has become a growing trend as food security becomes a concern globally.
As such, many people are now planting fruits and vegetables such as apples, tomatoes, oranges, carrots, lettuce, pepper and so much more.
While some can afford to buy water sprinklers, others cannot and have to stand in the hot sun, moving from plant to plant, ensuring that each is watered properly.
But, if you have a hose, you can bore tiny holes in it and place a cap at the end of the hose. Then, weave it through your plants and turn on the tap.
Water will spray from the holes and you will be able to water your plants without standing it the hot sun the whole time.
4. Newspaper to absorb food juices

Do you hate when the juice from food that you throw in the trash seeps through the bottom of the trash bag and ends up in the bin?
Well, if you place newspaper at the bottom of the trash bag it will absorb all the liquid and leave your trash bin dry.
That way you won’t have to worry about the bag leaking when you take it out or have a bin full of smelly liquid that you constantly have to wash.
5. Bread clips to save flip flops

Whether going to the beach or running errands, flip flops are often the shoes people wear on chill or relaxed days.
But how annoying is it when there is a split at the bottom of the flip flop that causes the strap that secures the shoe to the foot to fall out?
If you have a bread clip, though, you are in luck. Simply place the clip at the base of the strap on the bottom of the shoe and it should stop the strap from coming out.
6. Cleaning a blender

After blending up a nutritious smoothie or some fruit juice, the pulp that remains in the blender can be hard to get rid of, especially if it was left in the blender for a while.
This often leads to us scrubbing the side of the blender tirelessly as we seek to remove all the residue, risking getting cut by the blade at the bottom.
But, if you place soap and water in a blender and blend the two like you would a smoothie, this should make cleaning the blender easier and faster.
7. Remove gum from carpet

When gum gets stuck on a carpet, removing it can be a tedious job that is not always successful, leaving behind specks of gum.
But, did you know that when gum is frozen it moves from slimy to hard and brittle and is easier to remove.
The next time you have gum stuck to a carpet place a bag of ice on it and leave the bag for half an hour. When you remove it, the gum will be hard and brittle and easier to extract.
8. Dust pan hack

Anyone who has ever swept a floor with a dustpan and a broom knows how annoying it can be to get that last line of dirt to go in the pan.
No matter how hard you try, the line never disappears which can be very frustrating.
But, if you tape the mouth of the dustpan to the ground with painters tape it will leave no residue on the ground and you will finally be able to get rid of that annoying dust line.
This hack also works for sweeping glass and can help you pick up the tiny specks of glass that are hard to sweep.
9. Erase permanent marker

Have you ever accidently written on a whiteboard with permanent markers? Well, you are not alone.
Luckily, a permanent marker is not so permanent at all.
In fact, it can be erased with a dry erase marker or a water-based marker which is referred to as a temporary marker.
Simply write over the permanent marker with the dry erase and then use a cloth to wipe it. This will remove the permanent marker and your whiteboard will be as good as new.
10. Get rid of chewy pizza crust

Have you ever microwaved a pizza and the crust changes from soft and fluffy to chewy and tough?
Well this can be changed with a glass of water.
The next time you go to microwave your overnight pizza, place a cup of water in the microwave with your pizza.
The water will keep the pizza from drying out completely, leaving you with the soft fluffy crust you are used to.
