A total of 163 police officers were recognised and awarded for their commitment to excellence and long service to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), during an honours and awards ceremony at the National Arena on Thursday.

The awardees were commended for their contribution to nation-building and their role in the JCF’s evolution as a force for good.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, who was the guest speaker, noted that “the force today is different… from the force I had the privilege of starting to lead as minister eight years ago”.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the JCF and expressed gratitude for the members’ resilience in the face of adversity. Dr Chang highlighted the significance of law enforcement in fostering a stable and peaceful society, pointing out that, “the police force reflects that motto you have adopted in recent times, ‘The Force for Good’, that lays the foundation for a stable, prosperous and peaceful society in which good order reigns”.

He assured the officers of his unwavering support and commitment to providing them with the necessary tools for success.

“We have a way to go. But all I can do is to commit to providing you with whatever tools you need. You decide what is in the interest of the Police Force and I [will] provide the policy framework and the support required. We are deeply committed to that,” Dr Chang emphasised.

Police Commissioner, Dr Kevin Blake, similarly commended the honourees, citing them as pillars of the JCF’s future.

Dr Blake highlighted the core pillars of transformation within the force, noting the importance of people, quality service delivery and technology in shaping the future of law enforcement.

The commissioner further underscored the resilience and commitment of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to upholding the law and serving their communities.

He reiterated that the JCF remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve, guided by the unwavering commitment and excellence exemplified by its long-serving officers.
