Authorities have reported the discovery of two deceased individuals in the wheel well of a JetBlue aircraft that landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Monday, January 6.

Officials suggest the deceased could be Jamaican nationals, though their identities remain unverified.

The grim discovery was made during routine post-flight maintenance following Flight 1801’s arrival from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. JetBlue has launched an investigation to determine how the individuals accessed the aircraft’s wheel well.

Carey Codd, spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to establish the cause of death. Airport operations have not been affected.

Efforts continue to confirm the identities of the deceased and determine how they gained access to the aircraft.
