Two decades after cementing themselves in the annals of music history with Stankonia, rap duo Outkast celebrates three singles from the album being certified platinum—20 years following their release.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed on Thursday (October 8) that lead single B.O.B (Bombs Over Baghdad), as well as classic hits So Fresh, So Clean, and Ms. Jackson all sold one million digital copies since being released.
The certifications couldn’t have come at a better time for Outkast as group members Big Boi and Andre 3000 celebrate Stankonia, their fourth studio album’s 20th anniversary this October.
Outkast plans to go big on Stankonia’s release anniversary, the group announced, with an updated version of the critically acclaimed album to include previously unreleased remixes on Friday, October 30.
The group has been teasing the celebration on the official Outkast Instagram page, sharing teases of what they have in store for their fans.
Sony Music, the parent company of LaFace Records under which Stankonia was released in 2000, announced on Thursday that it will release streaming bundles and new vinyl and digital download editions of the beloved project.
Stankonia will be updated on all streaming platforms and Vinyl Me, Please will also release a new, 2xLP version of the album on black and white galaxy vinyl to subscribers.
So Fresh, So Clean was released on March 13, 2001, as the third and final single from the classic hip-hop album. The track reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at the time.
Cult classic and urban anthem Ms. Jackson was released on October 17, 2000, as the second single from Stankonia. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of February 17, 2001. The album’s lead single B.O.B was released on September 19, 2000, through LaFace Records and Arista.
Skantonia peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and spent 46 weeks on the chart, after selling 530,000 copies in its first week.
