

Ackera Nugent’s debut at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will make for an entertaining watch on August 7 in the 100-meter hurdles race.
This 22-year-old is the second-fastest woman in the hurdles event, with a record time of 12.28s at the National Championships in June 2024.
The 2021 NCAA National Indoor Champion started her territory education at Baylor University in Texas, then transferred to the University of Arkansas, where she graduated with a degree in advanced communications.

She formerly attended Excelsior high school in Kingston, where she definitely excelled and attained 7 CSEC and 4 CAPE subjects.
A force to be reckoned with, Nugent ran at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires for the girls 100m hurdles. Despite suffering a sprained ankle, she carried home the bronze medal with a combined time of 26.41 seconds.
Nugent’s amazing track and field journey continued when she won the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, clocking a wind aided 12.25 seconds.
She signed a professional contract with Adidas in 2023. Her coach, Chris Johnson, expressed potential in Ackera as a 100m sprinter, but she decided to focus on the 100m hurdle for now.

“Coach Johnson wants me to trust my speed between the hurdles, and I haven’t really reached my maximum potential with that yet,” said the sprinter while speaking to a local media house.
The young sprinter had a great season with 7.30s in the 60m at the Tyson Invitation in 2024. Her other accolades include the NCCA indoor 60m hurdles with an astounding 7.73s record.
A formidable opponent, this young hurdler is set to make waves at the Olympics and she herself is hopeful of a perfect run.
