The 2026 Sectoral Debate starts tomorrow in Gordon House, where Government Ministers and their Opposition counterparts update the nation and the legislature on their stewardship of portfolio assignments for the last parliamentary year and the current one.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Peace, Dr Horace Chang, opens the annual debate exercise, followed by Opposition Spokesperson on Energy and Telecommunication, Phillip Paulwell.

During this exercise, Ministers and Opposition Spokespersons also give a report card on their performance in the respective constituencies as Members of Parliament (MPs).

The Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, Finance Minister and Opposition Spokesman on Finance don’t take part in this parliamentary debate, since they would have spoken prior in the Budget Debate, which precedes the Sectoral Debate.

During the next two months, the parliament will hear from these Ministers and Opposition Spokespersons. The Sectoral Debate will be followed by the Constituency Debate involving Government backbenchers and Opposition MPs.

During this debate MPs report on their use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), infrastructure projects, and social initiatives. Occurring after the sectoral debate, it focuses on constituency-specific development, road repairs, and project updates.
