Information Minister Dana Morris Dixon says a total of 275 applications have been approved under the National Housing Trust (NHT) Smart energy loan facility.
Morris Dixon, addressing last Wednesday’s (February 19) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, noted that under the facility, homeowners can access up to J$1.5 million to instal energy-saving technology.
These include solar panels, water heaters and insulations, and batteries, among other renewable energy solutions.
Additionally, homeowners can use the loan to instal rainwater harvesting and storage systems, including tanks and pumps.
The initiative promotes climate change resilience through improved energy-saving technologies, further emphasising NHT’s commitment to environment sustainability. It is among a series of policy changes and initiatives that came into effect in July 2024.
Senator Morris Dixon encouraged greater take-up of the loan facility.
“In just six months, we had 275 loans that were approved. For those of you who have not accessed it and you are a mortgager with the NHT, please do so,” she said.
