The highly anticipated 30+ Fashion Show and Expo is set for Saturday, November 30 at the Portmore Community College in ST Catherine and will showcase the best of Jamaican fashion and designers.
Among the acclaimed designers are Renae Myrie of Aura Kutoura, Janseen Graham of Endlesz Designs, and celebrity designer Lucien Harrison with his brands.
The show will highlight the beauty and diversity of women in their 30s and beyond, provide an opportunity for networking among entrepreneurs, small businesses and their client base, plus empowerment workshops for the “modern, evolved women”.
The bonus of this staging is that designers who participate will get the opportunity to participate in the Scandinavian International Fashion Week in Stockholm, Sweden in 2025, a partnership Compass Communication (Media) has had with its CEO, Sonja Anderssen since 2019. “Once we can secure sponsorship, we will make it possible,” said Compass Communication CEO Stephanie Elliott-Gunning.
The empowerment workshops are specifically geared toward women navigating maturity and for younger women to understand how to deal with each level of maturity, informing and educating patrons such as travel, real estate, and financing, inspiring attendees to take control of their lives and pursue their passions.
“Our Expo starts at 10:00 am and will have hairdressers, vendors of products and services specifically for women of all ages, We expect much attendance and participation at this event, as Portmore, of course, is the largest residential community in the Caribbean and holds so much potential for development, including being a technological city. With this potential, I am foreseeing seeing my partners from Europe wanting to stage future events there. Who knows?” said an optimistic Elliott-Gunning, stating she constantly thinks of the possibility her city of choice holds,
“The 30+ Fashion Show and Expo aims to celebrate the modern evolved woman, empowering her to unleash her inner strength and pursue her dreams, It’s being positive about our entire existence after having completed or in the process of completing, our familial obligations, suffered loss etc,” said Elliott-Gunning. “We’re thrilled to see Jamaicans embracing this vision and we’re intent on making the event a huge success.”
Elliott-Gunning said her biggest challenge is to secure sponsorship. “I wish corporate Jamaica would listen more to us creatives as to what Jamaicans truly need to have us move forward as a nation,” she said. “Mature women are no longer laid back and waiting to age, and as such, there needs to be more education and information available to them on how to navigate their ‘new age’. A woman’s life touches everything, and everyone, so there is not one business that needs to consider the impact women make on their profits.”
