Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is well on its way to making Kingston a greener city under its tree planting project.
“We are currently renovating several parks across the municipality, including the Maverly Park. We intend to plant over 100 trees at Maverly Park alone and some people might say you joking, you can’t plant so many trees at Maverly Park. Well, I have news for you, we have already planted 40 so only 60 more to go,” Williams said.
Williams, who was speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) 80th annual conference held on Sunday, November 26 at the National Arena, said the additional 60 trees will be planted within the next few months.

The project is part of the KSAMC ‘Paint the City’ initiative, which is aimed at upgrading, beautifying, and reinjecting life into the city of Kingston.
The mayor also noted that the transformation of the streets of downtown Kingston continues with the integration of history and culture.
“There are four projects coming next year, the transformation of Church Street, which has already begun. We are also installing umbrellas to enhance Temple Lane, Mark Lane, and Water Lane, so the experience on our streets will be better,” he said.
