Following the certification training of 15 Jamaican electric vehicle (EV) repair technicians, the focus will now shift to them training 400 people from across the island in EV maintenance and emergency response.

This ‘train the trainers programme’ is part of the JPS Foundation and IDB Lab and Partners project to boost the EV sector.

Jamaica has been making steady strides to quickly adapt for the emerging sector.

Jamaica is the first Caribbean island to have individuals certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry. Jamaica has already installed more than 60 EV charging ports at various locations across the country and reduced import duty on electric vehicles from 30 per cent to 10 per cent.
