NAJ/LASCO Nurse of the Year 2022-2023 Alicia Adamson (centre) shares a warm embrace with her sons Wasan and Malachi. The recently crowned Nurse of the Year’s sister, Heather Foster (left) shares in the sweet moment.

Nurse Alicia Adamson, nurse’s manager at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, received the 2022-2023 Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ)/ LASCO Nurse of the Year Award at the annual ceremony held in July.

The ceremony pays homage to the remarkable achievements of our nation’s nurses — serving as a reminder of the selfless efforts of the women and men who continue to sacrifice for the health of our beautiful island. Adamson has surely earned her title. Get to know her a little bit more below:

1.    Nursing Was My Destiny

Growing up my dad would always say to me that I would be a nurse one day. I always saw the profession as one of great care and shared that sentiment. My goal to make a difference in society in any way I could fused with my passion to care for others, thus nursing was the only path for me. It was simply destiny!

2.    My Mantra

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”; (Phillipians 4:3) is my favourite Bible scripture. It motivates me on a day-to-day basis as it reassures me that no matter how hard the task is, once you allow the Lord to lead and strengthen you, then for sure your mountains will be seen as a walk over.

3.    A Mother First

Though I am known as the NAJ/LASCO 2022/23 Nurse of the Year, being a mother is one of the greatest titles I wear. I have three tremendous sons and they mean the world to me. I am indeed a mother first and I enjoy being one.

4.    It Doesn’t Stop Here

I am honoured to be given the title as nurse of the year 2022, however I do not plan on putting a stop to the fuel that keeps me driven. When I entered Victoria Jubilee Hospital in 2009, I remember saying to the now Deputy Director of Nursing Service that I want to be the next Chief Nursing Officer and she said we only have one in the island, I said well someday I want to be that one. I still to this day stand firm on this and will continue working towards that goal.

5.    The LASCO Product I Love The Most

I really do love LASCO Food Drink. When making corn flakes the vanilla flavoured LASCO Food Drink is my go-to. I enjoy it cold preferably and at times I just have it by itself with a lot of ice.
