5 things to know about Jamaica’s new film commissioner Jackie Jackson

Jackie Jackson, the founder of Ideatethat and adjunct lecturer in film production at The University of the West Indies, Mona, has spent her life taking on new challenges in the world of entertainment.

After working in media production, primarily with TVJ, she moved to New York, where she lived for 10 years before she returned to Jamaica in the pandemic.

Since she’s been back she’s been a business owner, author, lecturer, media consultant, and now film commissioner.

Here are 5 things to know about Jackie Jacqueline Jackson:

She is very fit

Jackson is a level-one CrossFit trainer, and said she works out up to five days a week; she also hikes every Saturday.

Fried chicken and curry gravy

Her favourite food is fried chicken and curry gravy but will only eat it with rice & gungo peas.

Worked with BET

When Jackson was starting out her career in the US, she interned as a production assistant and BET’s 106 & Park show. Later on in her career while working as a production coordinator with a media development company, she was part of the team that pitched a show called 50 Central, a comedy series hosted by 50 Cent.

Loves motorcycles

Jackson is a big fan of motorcycles, so much so that she plans on getting one for herself later this year. She said her dream bike is a yellow and black BMW S 1000 RR.

Launched Jamaica’s first adult colouring book

In 2022, Jackson launched I am that I am, Jamaica’s first adult colouring book. She said she likes to colour to help her relax when she feels stressed.
