

There is no denying that American singer, songwriter and actor Chris Brown has managed to not only cement his place in R&B music but also in the hearts of many fans including Jamaicans.
On Sunday (August 27), Jamaicans will be flocking to the National Stadium for the ‘Chris and Friends’ concert to witness the singer in live action.
Chris Maurice Brown otherwise known as ‘Breezy’ was born in Tappahannock, Virginia in 1989 to his mother Joyce Hawkins, a former daycare centre director and father Clinton Brown, a correctional officer at a local prison. He grew up with his older sister Litrell Bundy.
The ‘Under The Influence‘ singer developed a love for singing and dancing from a tender age where he would sing on church choirs and perform at local talent shows.

Brown’s debut album, ‘Chris Brown‘, was released in 2005 and was a commercial success where it debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 154,000 copies in its first week. The triple platinum album contains hit singles such as ‘Run It‘, ‘Yo (Excuse Me Miss)‘ and ‘Poppin‘.
With several hits to his name, Brown continues to please fans with his impressive vocals and high-energy performances.
Here are five things to know about Chris ‘Breezy’:
1. Chris Brown or C. Sizzle?

Did you know that Chris Brown’s stage name before his rise to fame was C.Sizzle? You probably did not.
But before the R&B superstar got his big break in the musical industry he once went by the name C.Sizzle.
Brown was discovered by Hitmission Records at his father’s gas station at age 13 while the record was seeking to embark on new talents. Brown’s demo package was arranged under the stage name C.Sizzle.
He later changed his stage name to Chris Brown when he signed to Jive Records in 2004 when he released his debut album.
2. Chris Brown and the big screen

It is no secret that Chris Brown can dance and sing but did you know that he has been featured on the big screen? Yes, in 2007 Brown made his debut on the big screen in the American dance drama Stomp the Yard.
He also appeared in other films such as This Christmas, Takers, Think Like A Man and Battle of the Year.
3. A lover of Art

It is no doubt that Brown wears many hats but did you know that he also dabbles in art? Chris Brown is a graffiti artist who produced street art in cities such as Los Angeles, London and Amsterdam.
5. Assault allegations

Apart from Brown’s musical career, he has been the subject of several controversies, one such incident that still leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of several fans today was the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
The singer reportedly assaulted the Diamond singer in 2009, which resulted in him being sentenced to community service and domestic violence counselling.
The brutal incident resulted in the abrupt end of the couple’s relationship. Brown later apologised publicly for physically assaulting the singer and expressed that he was ashamed of his conduct.
5. Grammy

Chris Brown has received more than 20 Grammy nominations during his musical career, however, he has only won one Grammy award.
He won the best R&B album for ‘F.A.M.E‘, which was his first on the Billboard 200 chart.
