Police in Clarendon are investigating the tragic death of a five-year-old girl who is believed to have drowned at her home in Rocky Point on Sunday.

The child has been identified as Rackeema Williams.

Reports from the police indicate that the incident occurred at the family’s residence, where the child is suspected to have fallen into an open pit on the property.

It is understood that the child’s mother became concerned after she was unable to find her daughter inside the house. She reportedly began searching the yard and noticed that a stone normally used to secure a manhole cover had been moved.

Upon checking the area, the mother allegedly discovered her daughter’s body inside the pit. She removed the child and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
