Boy killed in crash on first day back to school, mother in critical condition

Traevon Saunchez, a student of the Christiana Leased Primary and Infant School, in Manchester, died in a two-vehicle collision way to school on Monday, September 2.
The child was reportedly being transported by his mother, who is a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, when the crash occurred.
She is reportedly currently in critical condition at the Percy Junor Hospital.
There is reportedly an urgent appeal for blood for the officer.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of young Traevon Saunchez. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his mother, who is bravely fighting for her life, as well as with the principal, academic staff, and students of Christiana Leased Primary and Infant School,” said Education Minister Fayval Williams.
“Traevon’s untimely death is a devastating loss, and I urge the school community to lean on one another during this incredibly difficult time,” said Williams.
The ministry has also dispatched its Region Five guidance counselling team to provide immediate support to the school family. It said the team will be on-site to offer assistance to students, teachers, and staff as they navigate through this period of mourning.
