Recently launched genealogy company, 876 DNA Test, has introduced an at-home DNA testing experience to revolutionise the Jamaican landscape, intended to make lineage testing more accessible locally.

Empowering individuals to discover their genetic heritage with ease, 876 DNA Test offers an array of DNA testing services at their clients’ fingertips. The services include ancestry testing, paternity/maternity testing, aunt/uncle testing, sibling testing, pets and vets DNA testing, food sensitivity testing and legal DNA testing.

Standard tests for HIV other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and COVID-19 are also offered.

Terron Dewar, chief executive of 876 DNA Test, explained that the company’s primary goal is to provid a convenient and affordable option for DNA testing all while maintaining the integrity of the testing process.

“We are thrilled to introduce 876 DNA Test to the Jamaican market. Our goal is to remove the barriers to DNA testing and make it more accessible to everyone seeking to find out their genetic heritage. With our convenient testing process and expert services, we aim to provide a valuable resource for Jamaicans interested in exploring their ancestry or establishing family relationships,” he said.

To test with 876 DNA Test, persons simply order a test kit digitally, via the company’s website, WhatsApp or social media.

The company delivers the kit within two business days. Once received, persons are required to follow the instructions within the kit to collect the sample, then return it to the 876 DNA Test lab and await the lab-certified results, which are shared via WhatsApp or email within four business days.

Dewar shared that the company also offers counselling and mediation services to help persons navigate their test results. He noted that the expert team of dedicated counsellors and mediators is a crucial aspect aimed at mitigating potential adverse reactions to the results. This proactive approach is designed to support individuals in managing their emotions and making informed decisions, reducing the likelihood of resorting to violence during the process of reflecting on their results and planning their next steps.

“Exploring one’s DNA goes beyond biological composition; it deeply impacts an individual’s wellbeing. Recognising this, we have chosen to offer optional emotional support alongside our services, aiding our clients in navigating the emotional journey that often comes with the unveiling of their results,” he stated.
