Regina Belle, award-winning singer, and songwriter will be returning to Jamaica, headlining Perry’s Pre-Mother’s Day Event.  Organised by businessman, Peter Perry, the event is set to take place at Hope Gardens in Kingston on May 6. 

The event will feature performances by the Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths, alongside stalwarts, Glen Washington, and George Nooks. 

Perry’s Pre-Mother’s Day Event is the spiritual successor to Perry’s All-White Birthday Affair held in Spanish Town in 2019. The latter was headlined by R&B trailblazers The Manhattans, and reeled in thousands of patrons.  Promoter, Peter Perry, is excited to bring the concert to Kingston. 

He said: “As a man born in Spanish Town, it was important to me to stage the very first show in the old capital. I wanted to share that entertainment with the people of Spanish Town while giving something back to the community. Now, I feel it’s time to share that same level of entertainment with thousands of patrons in Kingston and give them a memorable experience. Giving back to the community beyond entertainment also remains a priority.”

Perry expressed that he is looking to surpass the success of the previous show. 

“With the current lineup and venue, we have a lot of confidence that we will surpass the expectations of the Jamaican people. Those who saw The Manhattans in Spanish Town know what to expect when we throw a show like this. And those who missed it, now have a chance to have that May, when they turn out to see Regina,” he said. 

Perry believes that the stellar lineup–headlined by the R&B veteran–is guaranteed to resonate with audiences.

Belle is not new to performing on the island. She performed at the Liguanea Club in 2019, and the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in 2011.

She got her start in music, as the opening act for The Manhattans. She would later on collaborate with the group on “Where Did We Go Wrong”, attracting the eye of Columbia Records, after which the label signed her to a record deal. Belle went on to release her debut album “All by Myself” in 1987. In 1993, she received not one, but two Grammy Awards for the record “A Whole New World”, alongside Peabo Bryson.
