The first Dominican Week in Jamaica has been described by Dominican Ambassador to Jamaica Angie Martinez as “historic”, as it was the first in the history of bilateral relations and the first in the entire Caribbean.
Martínez formally inaugurated the First Dominican Week in Jamaica, as well as the First Jamaica-Dominican Republic Business Forum, together with Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith; the Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senato Aubyn Hill; the Minister of Tourism, Edmund Barlett; the President of the Private Sector of Jamaica, Metry Seaga; the Vice Minister of Economic Affairs of the Dominican Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Hugo Rivera; the Executive Director of ProDominicana, Ms. Biviana Riveiro; among other Dominican and Jamaican authorities who were present for the event as it took place at the AC Hotel Kingston in St Andrew.
“This Dominican Week is an example of one of those that a year ago seemed utopian. We wondered how with a team of just three diplomatic officials we were going to achieve an event of this magnitude and complexity, but once again we were able to demonstrate that when the heart is set on something, limitations do not matter; we can turn our goals into reality.”

Martinez thanked everyone present and confessed that “many things that years ago seemed impossible between our countries, with the support of many persons, we have been making it a reality”.
She added: “This Dominican Week is an example of one of those that a year ago seemed utopian. We wondered how with a team of just three diplomatic officials we were going to achieve an event of this magnitude and complexity, but once again we were able to demonstrate that when the heart is set on something, limitations do not matter; we can turn our goals into reality. This morning, after endless weeks of work, we are happily inaugurating the First Dominican Week in Jamaica.”
With the daily participation of more than 300 people throughout the week, the presence of 60 Dominican companies and 160 Jamaican companies, Dominican Week was held in Jamaica, which had an impressive work agenda that included high-level political meetings, panels and business roundtable, as well as important cultural activities.
