International model and Miss Universe Jamaica 2017 Davina Bennett is more than a pretty face; she is also the developer of the Davina Bennett Foundation for the Deaf.
The inception of the foundation was in 2017, just before Bennett’s pageant journey had begun.
Bennett found inspiration in a young deaf model, which led to the debut of the foundation.
“Basically, it was founded because of a girl I met … a deaf model when I was training models back in Jamaica. I fell in love with her .. . because regardless of what she was going through, she didn’t let that stop her, so I was inspired,” Bennett said in an interview this week with the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Bennett, unlike many, found motivation in being a service to others.
Prior to the pandemic, the foundation did beautification projects in deaf schools and donated equipment.
Its most recent project was before COVID-19.
The foundation went to Barbados and did a model workshop and raised funds to give back to the deaf community there.
However, with the COVID-19 pandemic on a rise, many have lost their jobs and have lost their motivation to go further.
Did Bennett show any weakness or doubt at this time?
“Last year, it really put a halt to everything. I was mostly doing appearances, speaking and branding things. That came to a hard stop. I was in The Cayman Islands training Miss World contestants. Then we had to leave because they said The Cayman Islands are completely closed and shut down.”
Surely, she did not, despite all her plans getting cancelled and countries shutting down.
Amid the pandemic, Bennett decided to make use of her creativity.

“I started painting some months after. It did very well. The collection is completely sold out. After that came the Maluma project, toward the end of the year. So, I ended the year with a bang.”

The ‘Maluma project,’ is a surprise digital album, 7 Días En Jamaica.

The album was a tribute to Jamaica, that incorporated not only the culture, but also local talents which captivated the aura of Jamaica.
Bennett was the lead role and appears in all seven of the music videos that makes up the album, fitting representation of the Jamaican beauty.
