The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is demanding answers after the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) was this week revealed to have partnered, during a span of seven years, with an
individual who has faced legal troubles over sexually inappropriate exchanges with a minor.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry said Fayval Williams, the minister of education, youth and information, has raised concerns with the CPFSA about how such an individual could have been engaged and
that “clearly the protocols for the protection of children have not been followed”.
The individual in question is connected to a United States-based non-profit organisation with which the CPFSA has had an association since 2014.
INSTRUCTIONS TO CPFSA
In the ministry statement, in was indicated that Williams has instructed the CPFSA to:
- Disconnect all relations with the person in question.
- Investigate any interactions with any state care child who may have interacted with this person to see if there are any adverse issues to be dealt with.
- Ensure all persons who are engaged with children under the control of the government have a background check.
- Direct that no person who has adverse findings against them be allowed in the childcare ecosystem.
- Provide a full explanation as to why there was a continued relationship with this person despite knowledge of adverse findings against them.
