Jamaican racing icon Peter Moodie Snr has died

Legendary Jamaican race car driver Peter Moodie Snr has died.

Moodie’s son, Ishmael Moodie, posted a message on Instagram announcing his father’s passing earlier today.

“It is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of Peter Moodie Snr on March 20, 2021,” the message from the Moodie family stated.

“Our family is devastated by this loss and will be in touch as soon as we have information regarding a celebration of his life. He touched so many lives and has left a lasting impression of fierce loyalty, honesty and the necessity of family. He will be forever a teacher as we share all that he taught us to the next generation.”

The family added: “We will miss his unforgettable emails, conversations and the food ‘never before cooked by man’ . There is and was no one like him and we will be forever grateful for the time we had with him.”

The family did not provide any further information around his death.

Among those responding to news of Moodie’s death was Ricky Vaz, president of Auto Traders Ltd, who posted: “He was one of the most memorable Jamaican Racing ICONs … . He was multigenerational in regards to his motor racing fan base, a career that spanned five decades.”

Vaz added: “Racing was his life, behind the wheel, mentoring, preparing the younger ones. Big boots to fill, but his legacy is assured through his sons. Walk good Peter Moodie, nuff respect, always.”
