Jamaica-born Royal watcher Lady Colin Campbell has pointed the finger at Prince Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, as the family member who raised infamous questions about his son Archie’s anticipated skin colour.
Lady C, declaring last week that Princess Anne has always “objected strongly” to Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle, however stressed that she did not believe there was any racism or concerns about colour involved.
The 71-year-old writer, who was born to a prominent family in the parish of St Andrew on the Caribbean island, was airing her thoughts on the recent controversy that engulfed the British Royal Family in the aftermath of Markle interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Lady C said Princess Anne, at 70, was the primary advocate against her nephew marrying Markle, whom she believed to be “unsuitable”.
“Princess Anne was the champion in terms of ‘don’t marry that girl, she is unsuitable’.,” Lady C said as she addressed the matter in a video published on Youtube.
“‘She is wrong for us, she is wrong for the country, she is wrong for the job’. Well, it’s turned out to be true.”
Lady C also said Princess Anne felt Meghan was “flagrantly attention-seeking” and that it was a turnoff to the Queen’s second child and only daughter.
Addressing the hints of racism made against the Royal Family in the Oprah interview, Lady C said Meghan “weaponised” some of the “objections” to her on the “grounds of colour”.
“No one is the guilty party in terms of racism,” Lady C said.
“There were no concerns about Meghan’s colour.
“Princess Anne was rightly concerned that if the marriage proceeded and there were children there would be huge problems.
“Not because of Meghan’s colour, but because of Meghan’s inability and determination to remain unable to appreciate the cultural differences.
“And to actually have respect for the institution into which she was going to be marrying and the family into which she was marrying.”
Lady C, who was born in Jamaica with a deformity that led her family to raise her as a boy, emigrated to the United Kingdom and, after surgery to address he condition, became a model before marrying Lord Colin Ivar Campbell, son of the 11th Duke of Argyll.
