Let’s rock those curls!
Yes! Natural curly hair takes a lot of time and products to maintain, especially when one is not aware of the hair type or hair porosity.
The first step then is to check a hair chart and identify the hair type then test the porosity of the hair strand in order to choose the right products for the hair.
Curly haired women often experience pain and irritation when the hair gets tangled and in knots, therefore the challenge then becomes ‘how to manage the curly hair’ so it maintains its shine, bounce and volume, without the hair strands shedding.

- Pre-Shampoo Treatment for Curly Hair
Pre-shampooing should take place 30 mins to a day before washing the hair. The benefit of pre-shampooing is that it softens and detangles the hair. It prevents unnecessary roughness and damage during the shampooing process, especially if hair is extremely tangled. Use a combination of hair oils to pre-shampoo like olive oil, argon oil, etc, mixed with aloe vera, and apply it to dry hair. Divide the hair into sections and spread the treatment evenly from roots to ends. Pop on a plastic cap or towel to help trap the heat into the hair strands, which will open up the cuticle of your hair and invite the oil to penetrate more deeply.

- Nourish and cleanse with shampoo
Is your curly hair dry and brittle? That is because the natural oils from the scalp struggles to reach the ends of the hair strands. Using a nourishing shampoo helps to promote healthy hair, it stimulates the scalp, and turn over-processed hair into a more manageable hold. Wash up to two times dependent on how dirty the hair is. - Use deep hair conditioner
Deep conditioner helps to moisturise and soften the hair. The steps to deep conditioning are just to work the product into your hair from roots to ends. Avoid the scalp—that’s not where typically needs moisture. Remember shampoo is for the scalp and conditioner is for the hair.
Use a wide tooth comb or rake the fingers through the hair to distribute the conditioner evenly, and to help get rid of further knots. Then let the conditioner go to work. Place your hair under a plastic cap or hood dryer for 10 minutes, or cover it with a towel for 20 minutes and let your body heat do the work.

- Avoid heat
While using a blow dryer or towel-drying the hair is easier, the heart will only further damage the hair and the towel-dry will only cause the hair to frizz. Leave the hair to air dry. When the hair is dry, apply the liquid, cream and oil (LCO) method or the LOC method, then protective style accordingly. If you should choose to use blow dryer-use a diffuser (which reduces frizz by distributing the heat evenly) – but don’t over-dry, just dry out the majority of the water and then leave the rest to dry naturally.
