Amid the prime minister’s claims that violent music has attributed to the rising crime rate, a new Crime Stop campaign urging persons to ‘Take a Stand’ has been rolled out using Jamaican dancehall entertainers and social media influencers as the chief proponents of the campaign’s message.

The new campaign features the likes of dancehall artistes Agent Sasco, Bounty Killer and Sevana as well as social media personalities Brush 1 Chromatic, Dahlia Harris, Prince Pine, and Tanaania Tracey.

During the advert, each person expresses their feelings towards the state of crime in the country in addition to what needs to be done to tackle the crime monster.

“The state of the country with crime and violence is very disheartening” Tracey began. “I need everybody to know that it’s not something that the government alone needs to work on, we the people need to work on it too.”

Sevana continued by reminding citizens that as tough as life may be, we need to “try a little kindness”, since “we cannot give life, don’t take it”.

“We are our brother’s keeper, we make the country we live in” said Agent Sasco. So “we cyaa mek crime mash it up”, closed Bounty Killer.

Crime Stop Campaign to rid Crime Culture

As the crime monster continues to play a debilitating role in Jamaican society, Crime Stop, the non-profit entity that rewards Jamaicans for giving information on criminal activity anonymously, is hopeful that this new public education campaign will help rid the country of the culture of silence that has enabled the continuity of criminal activity in Jamaica.
