Hope that Jamaica’s tourism sector will recover stronger is steadily picking up, as the country recorded its highest number of visitors since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic over the recently concluded Easter holiday weekend.

“According to preliminary data from the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Jamaica recorded some 14,983 visitors to the island from April 1 to 5, 2021,” said Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

“Over 13,000 of these visitors entered the island via the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.”

Bartlett said he was very heartened by the data received, “as it shows that Jamaica is still top-of-mind to our visitors and that we are making steady progress towards a full recovery of our sector”.

For the achievement, Bartlett credited the “aggressive, innovative, and impactful” marketing campaigns of the JTB, as well as “the hard work of tourism partners and stakeholders for the work they do in marketing Brand Jamaica to the world”.

For 2021, to date, Jamaica has welcomed some 209,930 passengers to the island, a 63.4 per cent decrease of the amount welcomed to the island for the same period last year.
