Amid reports that a major advertising company issued a memo on Monday, April 12 mandating that all members of staff be vaccinated within the next 14 days, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has advised employers that “vaccination remains a personal choice”.

In a press release from the Ministry of Labour and Security, dated Thursday (April 15), it stated that it has come to the ministry’s attention that “workers are concerned by memos purportedly issued by employers mandating that they be vaccinated or otherwise be asked to resign”.

In response to these reports, the ministry’s release said that “while the Ministry of Health and Wellness is encouraging persons to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, vaccination remains a personal choice”.

Given this, the Labour Ministry indicated that it is “advising workers to refer to the Labour Division any action taken by an employer against them that may be deemed prejudicial to their reluctance to being vaccinated.”
