The Government of Jamaica will spend $453.4 million to purchase six new x-ray machines, which will be installed at four hospitals in the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA).

Minister of Education, Youth and Information Fayval Williams, who was speaking at a post-Cabinet press conference at Jamaica House on Wednesday (June 9), said the contract has been awarded to Arel Limited to supply and install the machines.

Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) will be the major benefactor of the equipment, as the facility will get three of the machines, with Spanish Town Hospital, National Chest Hospital and Bustamante Hospital for Children each receiving one.

Meanwhile, according to Williams, Cabinet has approved a contract for the supply, delivery and servicing of 25 double cabin 4×4 pickup trucks, for $133.7 million inclusive of GCT, which was awarded to Vehicles and Supplies Limited.
C&D Construction and Engineering Limited, Williams said, has also been approved by Cabinet to undertake the construction of a diagnostic intervention centre at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) in the amount of $85.9 million.

Cabinet also approved the award of a contract for the design, supply and installation of energy renewable solutions solar photovoltaic at the Forest Hills Relift Station in St Andrew for $68.1 million to Alternative Power Sources Jamaica Limited.

Kingston College (KC) will also benefit from a contract to SM Quality Construction, which will extend the Sixth Form block at 2a North Street for $65.3 million, the same amount that Marshall construction Company Limited will receive for constructing a cold storage facility at Windalco Kirkvine, Manchester.
