Popular reggae superstar Koffee on Thursday (October 7) released her new single ‘West Indies’ with a music video after a yearlong hiatus from the music scene.

Koffee, who has been brewing since her debut in 2017, took some time away from the spotlight, sparking fan frenzy with addicts wondering about the songstress’ whereabouts. 

The Grammy-winning artiste made a cryptic post on her social media accounts on Tuesday (October 5), leading fans to speculate that the 21-year-old was hinting at the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album.

The Toast singer updated her Instagram stories with a vague “October 7th” along with a love letter emoji. This was the first post uploaded to her IG account in the last seven months.

Koffee explained her cryptic post after fans stormed her comment sections demanding answers. In response to her myriad of fans, the singer took to her Twitter account with a post that seemed to reveal the title of a lead single or the name of her upcoming album.

VOCALS SOUND OFF FOR ‘WEST INDIES’

In a 42-second video clip posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Koffee could be heard in her element as her vocals were sounding off in the background as the words ‘West Indies’ moved across the screen. She captioned the tweet “October 7th” with the eye-looking emoji.

The preview has since ranked up more than 20,000 views.

Koffee made her debut in 2017 when she jumped on Upsetta Records’ Ouji Riddim, made popular by Jamaican legends Busy Signal and Luciano.

Her first single was titled Burning, which was inspired by her not being accepted to sixth form after finishing school.

‘You can’t let this out your flame,’ read lyrics from the song.

Burning later blew up after the release of Toast which remains her biggest hit to date.

Koffee, whose given name is Mikayla Simpson, was introduced to the world after the global impact of Toast which was a huge hit in 2018 and 2019.

The ‘Grammy-kid’, who grew up in Spanish Town, St Catherine, sat down with Rolling Stone and detailed the contents of her debut album, saying it resonates with themes of unity and positivity, but she would also be tweaking her style.

“I want to speak of a solution and of a way that we can come together and get along, even when things are going wrong. Positivity is definitely a theme. It will be a very interesting twist for people who knew my music before, and also for people who will discover me. I think it will be really awesome,” she explained.

Koffee, who says that she is not driven by the glitz and glam of fame, wants to channel the resources available at her disposal into bringing vibes and positive change to the world.
