English Football League One (EFL) leaders Wigan Athletic has completed a permanent switch for Jamaican defender Curtis Tilt from title rivals Rotherham United.
The club, which made the announcement on Monday (January 25), indicated that Tilt penned an 18-month deal for an undisclosed fee.
Tilt, 30, will continue to don the number 16 jersey for the Latics.
“We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of defender Curtis Tilt from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee. Having helped Latics to secure their League One status in 2020/21 with his battling performances and a vital goal in victory at Plymouth Argyle, Tilt has picked up where he left off with a strong start to this campaign,”
Tilt, who made his international debut for Jamaica in March 2021 against the United States, has enjoyed three successive loan spells with Latics.
The 1.93 metre-tall defender, reacting to the confirmation on Twitter, shared a clip from Wolf of Wall Street—revelling in the permanency of his move to Greater Manchester.
“Delighted to be back this time I’m here to stay #permanent,” he wrote.
Latics moved to the top of the table following a run of three consecutive wins at the start of 2022, and Tilt spoke about the importance of continuing to hit the right notes and working together as a unit.
“I think we’re just over halfway now and we are doing well. We’re hitting the targets that we need to be hitting this year, but football is a strange game and we just have to continue what we are doing and see where we end up,” he said.
“It’s one of the best dressing rooms I’ve been in. The lads are all together, we demand so much from each other, and we just want the best for each other so we can all hit the targets that we need to be hitting,” Tilt added.
