Khadija Shaw will be playing in her first final for Manchester City Women on March 5, after scoring in her team’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur Women in the semi-final of the WSL Continental Tyres League Cup at the Academy Stadium on Thursday (February 3).
Shaw scored in the 27th minute to double the lead after Jess Park had given the Citizens a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Shaw should have opened the scoring earlier in the game but, after shooting past Spurs’ goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, saw her shot go past the far post.
CHELSEA HAS SLIGHT EDGE OVER MAN CITY
Lauren Hemp put the finishing touches on the dominant performance when she added a third in the 71st minute and put Manchester City Women in the final where they will face defending champions, Chelsea.
Chelsea defeated 10-woman Manchester United 3-1 in their semi-final on Wednesday.
In 23 matches prior to next month’s final, Chelsea holds a slight edge in their head to head against Manchester City with eight wins to Manchester City’s seven. There have been eight draws.
Shaw will be hoping to add to her tally in the final in March after scoring three goals in her last two league cup games. She scored twice in City’s eight-nil drubbing of Nottingham Forest during the quarter-final round of the competition.
