Kamila Valieva becomes first woman to make quadruple jump at Winter Olympics

Russian figure skating sensation Kamila Valieva won a gold media in the team event at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, scoring a quadruple jump twice today (February 7).

The 15-year-old’s performance saw her scoring 30 points higher than the second score from Japan’s Kaosi Sakamoto.

Scoring the gold for the team event, she is now gunning for gold for the individual performance.

“This girl is a phenomenal, the most graceful skater I have ever seen,” said Great Britain’s Kate Silverwood.

Valieva’s efforts gave Russia 74 points with her scoring 178.92 points landing her team the second gold medal in this part of the event.

“When I was three years old I made a wish to become an Olympic champion. My childhood dream has come true.

“The first Olympics I watched were the Sochi Games.I remember that I especially liked Yulia Lipiutskaya’s free skate. Then the Olympics were in Korea where I cheered for Eugenia (Medvedeva) and Alina (Zagitova). And now it’s my turn to experience such emotions.”
