Multiple customers of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) across the island were last night (June 10), plunged into darkness after a power outage.

In a statement released by the utility provider on Saturday night, the outage occurred due to “load shedding following a sudden loss of generating units. Gradual restoration of power is currently in progress with full restoration expected within the next hour.”

However, this morning (June 11), customers have reported, on the company’s Twitter account, that they have not yet received power.

The outage has impacted at least seven parishes across the island including St. Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew, Clarendon and St. Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, JPS has since shared an advisory indicating that another outage has occurred this morning impacting sections of St. Andrew “due to suspected fault on a section of the circuit.”
