Man hit with several charges for April attack on Beryllium security team

The police are reporting that they have charged 28-year-old Jevon Bashford otherwise known as ‘Bashy’ in relation to the attack on Beryllium security officers on Saturday (April 29) in St Thomas.

He is a resident of Mandock Avenue, Big Lane in Central Village, St. Catherine.

In a release today (June 21), the police said that Bashford is facing several charges under the new Firearms Act, the Anti-Gang Legislation and other laws.

The St Catherine resident is facing 14 criminal charges in relation to the attack on the security team.

These charges include wounding with intent with the use of a firearm, robbery with aggregation, shooting with intent, use of a firearm to commit a felony (two counts), possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized position of ammunition, stockpiling ammunition, stockpiling firearms, possession of a firearm with the intent to cause damage, being a participant of a criminal organization, malicious destruction of properties, using conveyance of traffic firearms, facilitating the commission of an applicable offence by a criminal organization and conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravation.

A court date as not yet been announced.

The police said that an intense investigation led to detectives from the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Investigation Branch (C-TOCH) conducting an operation on Jacques Road in Mountain View, Kingston on Friday (June 9) where two high-powered rifles and over 70 assorted rounds of ammunition seized.

Bashford reportedly gave a caution statement in the presence of his attorney and was subsequently interviewed and charged.

Reports are that at about 10: 00 a.m. on April 26, a group of armed men attacked the Beryllium officers as they attempted to carry out maintenance duties at a service station.

The group of men reportedly opened gunfire at them resulting in a security officer and a bystander becoming shot and injured.

This is one of the many targeted attacks that have occurred in recent months against the Berylluim security team.
