19-y-o constable dies in car crash

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is mourning the loss of 19-year-old police constable, Christopher Ricketts, who died on Wednesday, September 13, due to injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident along the Hague main road in Trelawny.

According to reports from the JCF, Ricketts was driving a Mazda Demio motor vehicle car around 11:50 p.m. with a colleague on board when he collided with a Toyota Fielder car.

Reports are that the police were summoned to the scene, after which Ricketts and his colleague were taken to the hospital.

“Ricketts was pronounced dead and his colleague was admitted in serious but stable condition. The occupants of the Toyota Fielder were treated and released,” the JCF said in a statement on Thursday, September 14.

The young constable was assigned to the St James Police Division.

The JCF said that its chaplaincy branch and welfare department are providing support to the family and friends of the young constable.
