Auto insurer AutoSmart has stepped in to sponsor the Treasure Beach Football Club (TBFC), making it possible for the St Elizabeth team to make their inaugural appearance in the Jamaica Premiere League (JPL), set to kick off on October 22.

The sponsorship agreement and presentation of a J$3 million cheque transpired during a ceremony held at the AutoSmart headquarters in Kingston on Tuesday, October 10.

Gregory Foster, chief operating officer at GenAc, expressed enthusiasm during the handover, emphasising the mutual benefits of this partnership. He said, “We see where our partnership can be mutually beneficial and support a bigger dream. We look forward to a good season for the team.”

TBFC recently emerged from Tier II to secure a place in the top tier of Jamaican professional football, marking the first time in 43 years that a team from St Elizabeth has ventured into the upper echelons of the league. Notably, TBFC stands as a unique entity in the JPL, being the only club owned and operated by a non-profit organisation, BREDS – Treasure Beach Foundation.

Jason Henzell, chairman of BREDS, detailed the journey that has led to this achievement. He said, “Ours is a story of community development in Treasure Beach merging with the sporting excellence of STETS,” he explained.

Henzell, known for his contributions to the community, lauded the numerous individuals who have contributed to the “strong structure” of the club. He specifically commended BREDS president Paul Bernard for his unwavering belief and faith in the club’s potential.

Bernard highlighted that the success of the club is the result of “collaborative effort” that has successfully synchronised various skills. Speaking about the collaboration with AutoSmart, he said: “We are very happy to have the AutoSmart brand on board. Alone we cannot make it. Together we can. And we will wear your brand with pride.”

Touched by the presentations, Foster added: “At AutoSmart, we can relate to the story of being the underdog, and we know that if you continue to remain disciplined, ensure that remarkable team spirit that propelled you to the Jamaica Premiere League, and maintain the camaraderie, we think that the Treasure Beach Football Club will make an admirable showing.”

The AutoSmart branding will feature on the team’s jersey sleeve and in collaboration with the Treasure Beach Football Club and the wider community, will offer special discounts to community club supporters.
