
Despite his youth, Kamal Powell has garnered considerable marketing experience in Jamaica, having held senior positions at some of this country’s major companies.
He has now demitted his role as regional marketing manager at Campari, the parent company of J. Wray& Nephew to take on the demanding challenge as chief marketing officer at gaming giant, Supreme Ventures.
This new role will see him pit his skills in international markets across the Caribbean and Africa.
The affable Kamal Powell has already served as a marketing manager at Red Stripe and Digicel and in a 15 year career, gone from strength to strength, making a mark at every assignment he has undertaken.
So why a career in marketing for the man from Mandeville?
In an interview Powell said: “I was about to become an accountant and one day decided I didn’t want to sit around a desk and be tied down by numbers. I wanted to go out there and make a difference, get to meet, and interact with new people, explore new avenues, spread our culture in a fun and energetic way, create the ultimate consumer experience. This area gives me the opportunity to do just that!
Corporate Jamaica is glad for the choice that Kamal made. If one puts the cumulative value of the companies Kamal Powell has worked for it comes to around US$4.5 billion, and he’s not turned 40 yet!
Despite other players coming onto the Jamaican gaming scene, Supreme Ventures remains far and above the leader in its field., continuing to add revenue streams and refine its offerings.
It has already spread its wings to west Africa, more specifically Ghana.
In June of this year, sprint legend Usain Bolt joined Supreme Ventures’ Board of Directors.
For the financial year 2022, Supreme Ventures reported a net profit of over J$3 billion on revenues of J$12 billion, a remarkable feat coming so soon after the COVID pandemic.
Having established Super Lotto in eight countries in the Caribbean, there is plenty of marketing work to do for young Kamal Powell.
Supreme Ventures offers twelve lottery games through a network of 1,500 retail stores and 1,700 terminals. It also owns and operates the Acropolis Gaming Lounge. The Group now employs 500 people, and its revenue comes from three sources namely lotteries, sports betting and PIN codes.
For the nine month period ended September 2023, Supreme Ventures posted total income of J$39.90 billion producing a net profit of J$2.1 billion. Total assets for the period came in at J$20.60 billion.
Supreme Ventures has made significant strides with its sports betting arm growing by double digits year over year since it began operations.
Kamal Powell is joining a significant market leader whose growth trajectory continues to be bullish.
