The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says power supply has been restored to most of its customers who were impacted by outages caused by heavy rains over the weekend.

In a statement on Sunday, the power company said that restoration efforts for communities in rural St Andrew were delayed due to landslides, leaving more than 1,000 customers without power supply.

However, swift action was taken to clear the roadways, allowing the company to resume power restoration in Mavis Bank and surrounding areas in rural St Andrew.

“The majority of customers who remain without service are in the parishes of Hanover and St Andrew. JPS is aiming to have all major areas restored,” the energy provider said.

JPS did not provide a figure on how many customers are still without power.

According to JPS, the outages were due to heavy rains brought on by Potential Cyclone 22 that led to landslides, dislocated poles, and trees coming in contact with power lines.
