A group of nine Haitian migrants are now in police custody after arriving in Portland on Monday morning.
The police told Our Today that they received reports that the Haitians arrived by boat and docked at Long Bay beach about 2 a.m. Monday morning. Following a search of the area, nine Haitians including women and children, were later found in the Hope Bay area.
According to the Hope Bay police, eight of the Haitians were illegal. One Haitian man who was captured is said to have been legally living in Jamaica for some time in the parish of St James.

The Haitians are in custody for processing.
In the meantime, the search continues to locate the other Haitians who arrived on the canoe.
This is the fourth group of Haitians to have landed in Portland since the start of the year.
