Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley and her fellow Barbadian native Rihanna, singer and businesswoman, were among Forbes’ 2023 list of the World’s Most Powerful Women.

The renowned international magazine released this year’s on Tuesday, December 5.

The 35-year-old Rude Boy singer managed to secure the 74th spot on the list in the category of media and entertainment, while Mottley secured the 99th position in the category of politics and policy.

Among those who made it to the top were European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who secured the number one spot; followed by Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank; Kamala Harris, vice-president of the United States; Giorgia Meloni, prime minister of Italy; and American singer Taylor Swift.

Further down on the list was American host and television producer Oprah Winfrey, who secured the 31st position and American singer Beyonce Knowles, who secured the 36th position.

Barbie secured the 100 spot, a position that is allocated each year to a non-traditional image of power but has been influential throughout the year.

According to Forbes, the 2023 list was determined by four main metrics: money, media, impact, and spheres of influence.

“For political leaders, we weighed gross domestic products and populations; for corporate chiefs, revenues, valuations and employee counts were critical. Media mentions and social reach were analysed for all. The result: 100 women who are shaping the policies, products and political fights that define our world,” the magazine added.
