Less than eight months in the job, the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) confirmed the Friday (January 12) resignation of its president and CEO Steve Berberich.
The JPS board of directors met yesterday and named company chairman Damian Obiglio as acting CEO. He will take over from Berberich effective February 5, and will remain in that role until a new chief executive is selected.
In a news release Friday afternoon, the light and power company says Berberich’s resignation is due to the death of a close relative and the need to be closed to the family. According to Berberich, “a recent death in my family and other pressing matters has prompted a need for me to be geographically closer to them.”
In the company statement, Berberich explains, “I know the time has been short but it has been an honour to lead JPS, facilitate improvements in customer care and reliability, and renew the brand perception.”

Berberich, an internationally recognised industry expert in electric grid operations and markets, renewable and related technologies, information technology, and cyber security was appointed president and CEO on May 31, 2023.
He came to the position with over 38 years of experience from fields such as utility leadership, business consulting, financial services, banking and finance.
In the meantime, Obiglio’s leadership spans several companies, including a previous role as president and CEO of JPS. As such, the JPS board adds Obiglio “is therefore intimately familiar with JPS’ operations.”
