The Jamaica Police Federation has announced the death of Constable Rushane Lee, who was struck by a motorist while on duty along North-South Highway Wednesday night.

It was previously reported that the police constable was hospitalised in serious condition. However, he has since succumbed to his injuries.

A motorist is in custody concerning the incident.

“We are so hurt and saddened by his untimely demise. We mourn with the management and staff of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB). May God be with you and give you strength during this very dark hour,” said the Central committee in a statement on Thursday.

Constable Lee was assigned to the Highway Safety and Patrol Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Reports are that at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Constable Lee was conducting duties along the North-South Highway when he signalled a motorist to stop their car. The car slowed down, then sped up to hit the Constable. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
