Petrojam touts sustainable growth, regional market access at Caribbean energy confab

Petrojam Limited has called for expanded refinery operations and fuel markets in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

The presentation was made at the Platts S&P Global Caribbean Energy Conference held in Panama City from January 29 – 31.

The event, themed ‘Caribbean Energy: Transforming Energy through Investment,’ provided a platform for industry leaders to discuss critical issues and strategies shaping the future of energy in the region. The Petrojam team was led by General Manager Telroy Morgan, whose presentation ‘Refining Expansion and Fuel Markets in LAC,’ also underscored the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in an evolving energy sector.

Morgan highlighted some of the pressing challenges being faced by the sector and their effect on efforts to expand in the Caribbean. He pointed specifically to issues concerning ageing infrastructure, limited storage and transportation capacity, environmental concerns, and import dependence. He stressed that an improvement to the refining sector would lead to great financial growth of the Caribbean region.

To indicate Petrojam’s readiness to meet the growing demand for diverse fuel products in the region, Morgan said: “Petrojam is actively pursuing an expansion of its export portfolio, with a specific focus on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), Low Sulphur Diesel Oil (LSDO), and Asphalt. These insights reinforce Petrojam’s role as a critical player in the Caribbean energy landscape and its proactive approach to sustainable growth and development.”

The Petrojam head also commented on the company’s comprehensive approach to sustainable and responsible practices in the energy industry and pointed to their strong dedication to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) principles.

“We are fully committed to advancing eco-friendly energy solutions and are appreciative of any insights into potential opportunities for sustainability, including hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel, and transition fuels,” he stated.

He added: “In the medium to long term we plan to introduce advanced fuel treatment technologies and implement initiatives aimed improving efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint. These reduction such as an impending biodiesel fuel diversification programme.”

He concluded his presentation by reiterating the company’s continued dedication to being a leader in fostering positive change in the refining industry.

We believe in adopting advanced technologies, diversifying our fuel offerings, and investing in our people to create a lasting impact.”

Morgan also highlighted Petrojam’s initiatives in optimising efficiency while minimising the impact on the environment. He pointed to Petrojam’s strategic location and operational expertise and stated that the company aims to capitalise on these opportunities for growth and market penetration.
