Jamaican international footballer Trudi Carter has departed the Mexican club Atlético de San Luis Femenil (San Luis Femenil) nine months after joining in August 2023.
The club, which finished bottom of the 18-team Liga MX Femenil table in the 2024 Clausura season, announced the 29-year-old’s departure and the exit of 11 other players after a dismal season.
San Luis Femenil communicated on their official website that the players “concluded their contracts with our institution and will no longer be part of the first women’s team.”
“We extend our sincere gratitude to each of them for their dedication and commitment during their time with our institution,” the message continued. “We wish them the greatest success in their future endeavours.”

In a season of poor performances by the club, Carter managed to score five goals in 17 appearances, including 15 starts since January 2024.
Her quality as a striker was evident in those goals but with the team struggling against opponents and frequently playing on the back foot throughout the campaign, the striker often found herself isolated, lacking service from her teammates and playing large parts of her games without the ball. Consequently, scoring opportunities were limited.
Carter joined San Luis Femenil with club experience from AS Roma Women in Italy, FC Gintra in Lithuania, and Levante Las Planas in Spain. At the national level, she played for the Jamaica Under-17 and Under-20 teams as well as represented the country at the 2019 and 2023 Women’s World Cup tournaments.
It was at the 2023 Women’s World Cup that Carter’s corner kick found Allyson Swaby who headed the ball into Panama’s net for a 1-0 victory and the Reggae Girlz’s first-ever win at the tournament.

The Jamaican was one of three Reggae Girlz who signed with Mexican Liga MX Femenil clubs following the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The other two were Deneisha “Den Den” Blackwood who signed for Pumas Femenil and Konya Plummer who signed for Tigres Femenil.
All three, at the time of their signings, were touted in Mexico as members of the overachieving Jamaican Women’s World Cup squad.
While San Luis Femenil finished in last place at the end of the 2024 Clausura season, Blackwood’s Pumas Femenil made it to the playoffs where they exited in the quarter-finals. Plummer’s Tigres Femenil reached as far as the semi-final stage.
Following the recent reappointment of Hubert Busby as the head coach of Jamaica’s senior women’s football team, Carter has been included in the manager’s 23-member squad for two international friendlies against Brazil on June 1 and 4 in Brazil.
Being between clubs at the moment, Carter may relish the opportunity to once again demonstrate her talent and ability on the international stage, facing a top team like Brazil’s “Canarinhas”.
