Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, Member of Parliament of St Andrew West Rural, is threatening to take legal action against vice president of the People’s National Party (PNP) Ian Hayles for allegedly making defamatory attacks against her on social media.

The MP’s attorney, Andrea Whyte Walters of the law firm Walters White Law, indicated in a letter on Wednesday (June 26) addressed to Hayles that on June 19, Hayles posted a video on his TikTok and Instagram accounts using years-old audio of Cuthbert-Fynn’s voice from a private conversation.

The lawyer argued that Hayles deliberately and maliciously posted and edited the video and used the audio of Cuthbert-Flynn to give the impression that their client was engaged in a telephone conversation with him.

“Your malicious and false act was an attack on our client’s character and was intended to cause harm and damage and to lower our client’s reputation in the eyes of the public. Our client categorically denies ever having any conversation with you whatsoever in which she spoke to you in the manner in which you wish to have the public believe. This video posted on your social media accounts is false, blatantly misleading, dishonest, and has been and continues to be used as a tool to mislead and deceive the public in a misguided attempt to further your political agenda while painting our client in an unfavorable light (sic),” Whyte Walters said.

The attorney is now demanding the removal of the video from Hayles’s social media platforms and that a formal apology be issued on his social media platform for retracting the allegations against her client.

She said a failure to comply would result in legal proceedings being initiated.
