Reggae artist Christopher Martin has confirmed that the reported mass shooting in Pint HIlls, St Catherine early Wednesday morning occurred at the wake of his grandmother.

Following the shooting at the wake in Back Pastures, the gunmen fatally shot a man who was a short distance away before fleeing the scene.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2 am.

Grieved and angered by the unfortunate occurrence, the Big Deal crooner took to his social media to speak out against acts of violence, while expressing admiration for his grandmother who he said taught him the “meaning of love and community”.

“My heart is heavy this morning as I reflect on the tragic events that occurred last night in my beloved grandmother’s wake. She was a woman of deep faith and endless sacrifice, someone who taught me the true meaning of love and community. It’s devastating to see violence cast a shadow over what should have been a moment of peace and remembrance,” he wrote.

“I condemn all forms of violence and extend my deepest sympathies to the families affected by this senseless act. I pray for those involved to come forward and for our community to support the authorities in bringing justice.

“Jamaica, we must do better. Life is too precious to be consumed by violence. Let’s choose peace.
