The Country Music Awards (CMAs) nominations were announced on Monday, September 9, and Beyoncé was notably absent from the list, despite her recent foray into country music with her album Cowboy Carter.
Released in March, the album marked Beyoncé’s debut in the genre, yet it failed to secure any nominations, leaving fans dismayed and critical of the CMAs.
Beyoncé’s absence from the nominations comes as a surprise to many, particularly in light of the acclaim her album received. Cowboy Carter featured the lead single Texas Hold ‘Em, which made history as the first song by a Black female artist to top Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart when it was released in February.
The omission of this track from the nominations has ignited disappointment among fans and raised questions about the CMAs’ inclusivity.

The singer had previously shared on Instagram that the album stemmed from an experience where she felt unwelcome in the country music industry.
Black country artiste Shaboozey, who was featured on two tracks on Cowboy Carter, received two nominations in this year’s CMAs. His song A Bar Song (Tipsy) was nominated for Single of the Year and he was nominated for New Artist of the Year.
A representative for Beyoncé did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the snub.
