Expansion talk now underway

The flaky Jamaican beef patties made by a father and son team, Flake Bake are now being sold permanently across Aldi Supermarket outlets in England.

As of Thursday 12 September, customers and fans of Flake Bake Jamaican patties will be able to find them on the supermarket’s shelves every day. Paul and Mike Williams, the duo behind the patty, will now be working overtime to fill up to 1,000 Aldi supermarket chains nationwide, seven days a week.

Commenting on their dream becoming a reality, Mike told the Southwark News of London: “It’s been such an intense period in our lives. To have finally got to this stage is such an incredible achievement.”

Launched into the spotlight in April

The pair were first launched into the spotlight in April after they won the Channel 4 show Aldi’s Next Big Thing – a hunt for a brand new product to stock in its stores. As a result, their patty was stocked at 1000 of Aldi’s stores across the UK.

It then sold out three times as a limited product, so the supermarket chain was left with no choice other than to give them a permanent contract. In the meantime, the patty took the internet by storm and everyone – even Manchester City Football Club – was asking to try them.

Flake Bake’s patties can be found in Aldi’s chilled pies section and it costs just 99-pence. Over the last twelve years, the father and son duo have sold over six million patties and have earned a reputation in southeast London.

Expansion talks now underway

They are currently in talks with other major retailers to get their patties into other stores. This would be another win for Flake Bake, which according to Mike, “had never been on their radar” before.

Given the rise of this humble product, they be moving out of their kitchen in Peckham into a bigger facility.
