The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has issued a flash flood watch for several southern and northwestern parishes.

The watch will remain in effect until 5 pm today, September 23.

The watch has been issued for parishes such as Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, St Elizabeth, Trelawny, Kingston and St Andrew, Manchester, St Catherine, Clarendon, and St Thomas.

An area of disturbed weather associated with a broad trough across the western Caribbean is producing moderate to strong thunderstorm activity. This area is currently located southwest of Jamaica and is expected to generate unstable weather conditions across the island for the next few days.

Today’s forecast indicates intermittent showers and thunderstorms across all parishes, otherwise cloudy.

There will also be lingering nighttime showers and thunderstorms mainly across southern parishes.

A flash flood watch is issued when the conditions are favourable for flooding to occur in flood-prone areas.
