Cavalier SC continue to defy the obstacles, setbacks and odds, said technical director Rudolph Speid, after his club qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Cavalier defeated Moca FC of the Dominican Republic 7-0 on aggregate and reached the final of the Caribbean Club Championship but by extension the top two teams qualified for the Champions Cup where they will mix it up like the powerhouse of the region mainly from Mexico and the United States.

Head coach Rudolph Speid told Our Today that their achievement was very important for them as a team after going through a transformation.

“We lost Nicholas Hamilton to Waterhouse. We lost Shaniel Thomas to MoBay and Mackison has gone back home. We lost Gadail Irving and Kyle Ming to Mount Pleasant,” he pointed out. “So, it was a rebuilding process, but you know we have a cadre of young players who really wanted to make their names be known.”

Cavalier are currently sitting in fifth spot of the Wray and Nephew Premier League with 11 points from five games. They are just three points adrift of the leader who has played two games more.

“So, I suppose the young players are just stepping up and the Cavalier management and staff just gelling together and that’s what give us these results,” he noted.

“We have to say thanks to the management staff and all of the people who contribute to the club, sponsors and everybody. It’s just a team effort,” he reiterated.

“This means a lot to us. We have 20 players, 20 years and younger in our squad. You know, our oldest player is 24. So, we’re just trying to be the best club that we can be and everybody putting their best foot forward. All the players are motivated to do well. So that’s where we are now,” said Speid.

Cavalier defeated Moca FC of the Dominican Republic 7-0 on aggregate and will be the only Jamaican club participating in the 27-team competition which kicks off in February next year.

They drew 0-0 with Moca in the Dominican Republic on October 24 but Cavalier turned it around at the National Stadium winning 7-0 on the back of Shaquille Stein who scored a three-timer, netting in the sixth, 45th and 62nd minutes.

They will play Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic.
