EOJ ready for Nomination Day

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is ready to receive nominations for the upcoming by-elections in St Andrew North Western, Trelawny Southern, and the electoral divisions of Aenon Town and Morant Bay.

Nominations for Aenon Town in Clarendon Northern and Morant Bay in St Thomas Eastern will take place between the hours of 12 pm and 2 pm on Wednesday, November 6.

Nominations for St Andrew North Western and Trelawny Southern will be accepted between 10 am to 2 pm on the same day.

The EOJ says on nomination day, any person wishing to register as a candidate for St Andrew North Western and Trelawny Southern is required to:

  • fill out a nomination form signed by any ten or more electors registered to vote in the constituency;
  • return the form to the returning officer between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm
  • pay the nomination fee of J$15,000.

Additionally, any person wishing to register as a candidate for Morant Bay and Aenon Town is required to:

  • fill out a nomination form signed by any six or more electors registered to vote in the electoral division;
  • return the form to the returning officer between the hours of 12pm and 2 pm
  • pay the nomination fee of J$3,000.

The law requires that Nomination Day be at least five clear days after the announcement of an election, and Election Day, a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 23 days after Nomination Day.

Provided that more than one candidate is duly nominated on November 6 for each by-election, the respective Returning Officer will officially grant a poll for voting to take place on Friday, November 22, 2024.
